Stephanie Ives is the regional director of the New Israel Fund in the NY/Tri-State area, and she comes to this work with a deep passion for Israel, human rights and the American Jewish community’s power to effect change. Stephanie is a former director of education and community engagement at American
Jewish World Service, and she previously worked as an attorney, first clerking for Justice Aharon Barak on the Israeli Supreme Court and later specializing in affordable housing finance at the Boston firm of Goulston & Storrs, P.C. She is also a proud alum of Teach for America and Yeshiva University. Stephanie lives in Riverdale with her husband Yehuda Kurtzer and child Noah.

Yoel (Joel) Magid received a doctorate in English Literature from Columbia University. While teaching at Rutgers University, during the beginning of the Yom Kippur War, he left for Israel for six months as a kibbutz volunteer and lived as a kibbutz member for 24 years. He raised a family, worked in agriculture and taught at the kibbutz and Ben-Gurion University. Yoel found a school for kibbutz studies and wrote extensively about kibbutz life and Israel. He served as an emissary to a Zionism youth movement in England, as Director of the Kibbutz Program Center in N.Y., as World Chair of the Zionism Youth movement Habonim-Dror, as Secretary (sort of Mayor) of Kibbutz Be’eri and as organizational consultant to kibbutzim in the Negev. After returning to the U.S. in 1999, Yoel worked as Executive Director of Temple Sinai in Oakland California and recently retired as Executive Director of Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale, N.Y.  Yoel is uniquely qualified to speak about Israeli society, culture and politics.
