Salt Supplies Run Low, Leaving New Rochelle Roads in “Bad Shape”

Written By: Robert Cox

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The City of New Rochelle has issued a warning to exercise caution on area roadways.

As you’ve probably noticed, many streets are in bad shape this morning. This is the reason. While nearly all local roads have been plowed and while DPW will continue working throughout the day and weekend, salt supplies – not just in New Rochelle, but throughout the region – are running very low, and an expected shipment of new salt from the regional supplier has not yet arrived. As a result, in this last storm, DPW crews have been able to use salt only at a few critical locations.

New Rochele Mayor Noam Bramson offered this consolation, “The good news is that temperatures are expected to rise above freezing this weekend, so much of the ice should burn off.”

New Rochelle became the poster-child for Snow Removal #FAIL this week when WCBS-2’s Vanessa Murdock reported live from New Rochelle on the poor road conditions: Many Towns Struggle To Keep Up With Snow Removal
