NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The College of New Rochelle senior forward Jah-Leah Ellis has been selected D3hoops.com Third Team All-East Region, it was announced Monday.  This marks the first time in the 14 years this award has been handed out that a Blue Angel has received this recognition.

Ellis adds this honor to an ever growing list of accolades that she has garnered this season, including being named Player of the Year by the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) and the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I).  The senior was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week for Week 2 (covering games from November 24-30) after averaging 21.7 points, 24.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 3.3 steals and 1.7 blocks per game in helping the Blue Angels to a 3-0 week, including repeating as Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament champions.   Ellis pulled down 27 rebounds in each of the two tournament games that week, which represent a single-game high for Division III this season.

On the season, the forward averaged 20.2 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.9 steals per game while recording double-doubles in 20 of her 23 games.  She tallied a career-high 35 points in a win over College at Old Westbury, and nearly recorded the program’s first triple-double with a 28 point, 27 rebound, nine assist, four steal and three block performance in a win over Yeshiva University.

Nationally, Ellis ranks first in Division III in offensive rebounds per game, second in rebounds per game, fourth in double-doubles, 10th in defensive rebounds per game, and 15th in points per game (as of 3/14/15) while leading CNR to the HVIAC Semifinals and the ECAC DIII Metro Tournament, the first postseason tournament for the Blue Angels since 1986.

Players chosen to the D3hoops.com All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection. The All-American teams will be announced at the end of this week, in conjunction with the Division III men’s and women’s championships.
