QUEENS, NY – After a delayed start to the 2015 season due to the crazy winter weather over the last few weeks, The College of New Rochelle softball team finally played its season opener Tuesday afternoon against John Jay College. The games were played at Queens College due to unplayable field conditions at the original, Randall’s Island, location.

In the opener, the Blue Angels kicked off their season by plating a run in the top of the first, but ended up falling to the Bloodhounds, 19-1, in five innings. The CNR run was manufactured after three one-out walks loaded the bases. Sheila Conde, in her first game in a Blue Angel uniform, then singled home Edwards for the game’s first run.

Kevona Jackson walked to lead off the fourth, but CNR was unable to push across any more runs.

The nightcap saw John Jay blank CNR, 8-0, again in five innings.  Allison Gurney singled leading off the top of the fifth to break up the no-hit bid.

The Blue Angels return to action on Thursday, March 26, traveling to Bellerose, NY to take on St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn in a double-header slated to begin at 4:00 PM.
