NEW ROCHELLE, NY- The Iona College men’s and women’s rowing teams hosted Fordham Thursday afternoon, Apr. 2 , at Glen Island Park.
Starting off the afternoon were the women’s varsity eight. Iona’s boat saw senior coxswain Mary Cain, senior Ashley Franko, juniors Caitlin McGurran, Devon McKinley, Kaitlyn Ragolia and Chloe Walker, and freshmen Rachel Landock, Serena Yanitelli, and Brittany Quirino finish the 2,000 meter race at 8:57.2, behind Fordham. Later, Iona’s second varsity eight team competed against Fordham’s second varsity and novice eight. Rowing in the boat were freshman coxswain Madison Kirch, juniors Nicole Barclay and Carmen Ayala, sophomores Taylor Provonost and Clair Smith, and freshmen Yaritza Ayala, Elise Tarrant, Danielle Emma, and Anna Wyluda. The second V8 finished the race at 12:12.8, behind Fordham’s second V8 and N8.
One the men’s side, the first race saw Iona’s Varsity Pair 2, senior Ryan Harding and junior Ryan Dronzek, finish the race at 9:08.1, ahead of Fordham. The Gaels finished first for the men’s varsity eight race at 8:36.2. Rowing in the boat were freshman coxswain Bianca Mesqueue, senior Tom Baik, junior Brian Fairfield, sophomore Brandon O’Sullivan , freshmen Vito Roca, Abe Bluestone, Troy Madden, Harding and Dronzek. Racing in the novice 4 were Mesqueue, freshmen Michael Pepe, Elijah Ziobron, Bluestone, and Roca, finishing at 11:06.7, behind Fordham’s A, B, and C teams.
The Gaels return to Glen Island Park on Saturday, Apr. 18, when they host the Spring Metropolitan Championships.
