Free Public Events all Month Long at Habitat

Written By: Robert Cox

Join Habitat for the most exciting month of activity on Main Street in years and it’s green!  Free weekly events in Downtown New Rochelle will be held in April in celebration of Earth Day. Sponsored by Habitat for Humanity of Westchester County, each highlights an aspect of green living or working where the community can engage, interact and enjoy.

Activities kick off on Sunday, April 12th at 2:00 pm, when Jay of A. Bulfamante & Son Landscaping explains how to grow your best garden and showcases the use of palate gardens for the urban dweller.

April 12th also begins the ‘Bike New Rochelle’ club bike ride. Leaving 659 Main Street at 9:00 am, the tour will make use of Habitat’s new bike racks. Participants will learn about the bike-able city movement, transportation options and ways to cut down on your monthly gas bill. (http://bit.ly/bikenewrochelle)

Habitat will host a Contractor’s Breakfast on Earth day, Wednesday, April 22nd from 7:30–9:00 am.  Free and open to the public, the morning will include discussions from the area’s premier contractors on solar options for your home, easy green fixes for your older fixer-upper homes, and green building practices …plus a Green Discount all day long at all Habitat ReStore locations. Please RSVP by email  to Jim Killoran at jim@habitatwc.org or call 914-636-8335.

It’s Millennials on Main Street on April 23rd. Join the new Habitat Young Professionals (HYP): Millennials on Main Street group, to be held at 7:00 pm. Experience fun networking as you meet others, and learn about how to be part of HYPs new growing group! For more information contact email Jim Killoran at jim@habitatwc.org or call 914-636-8335.

The end of April will also feature Salsa into Spring, with a benefit for Habitat of Westchester’s Green initiatives and community green rebuilding.

Even if you can’t make it to one of these scheduled activities, check out some of the weekly offerings:

Free DIY Classes every Saturday at 10:30 AM. Learn about choosing and installing green insulation and green building supplies for your next home project.

Habitat’s newest and largest ReStore yet, located at 659 Main Street, is offering 25 percent off Green supplies including doors, cabinets, windows and furniture, with additional discounts taken during the Holy Week, Pesah and Earth Day.
