Iona Women’s Rowing Second In Spring Metro Champs

NEW ROCHELLE, NY- The Iona College women’s rowing team finished second overall in the Spring Metropolitan Championships on Saturday, Apr. 18.

Taking second in the Novice Four event were freshman coxswain Elise Tarrant, freshmen Rachel Landock, Serena Yanitelli, Katie Mulligan, and Brittany Quirino. The boat finished at 8:49.3, ahead of Geneseo’s A and B teams, Manhattan, and Hofstra.

Iona’s Varsity Four-A team took second place, with senior coxswain Mary Cain, juniors Chloe Walker and Caitlin McGurran, senior Ashley Franko, and Landock. The B team took fourth, behind Rensselaer, with freshman coxswain Madi Kirch, juniors Devon McKinley, Kaitlyn Ragolia, and Nicole Barclay, and Yanitelli.

Rowing for the first Varsity Eight race were Cain, Landock, Walker, McGurran, Franko, Yanitelli, Ragolia, and Barclay. The boat took second place, finishing at 7:30.6, behind Robert Morris. The second V8 race saw Iona take third, with coxswain Kirch, junior Carman Ayala, sophomore Clair Smith, freshmen Yaritza Ayala, Anna Wyluda, and Danielle Emma, Tarrant, and Quirino.

The team took second place overall for the Spring Metropolitan Championships with 67 points, behind Robert Morris with 80. The Iona College took home the O’Hare Cup with a combined total of 156 points, ahead of Geneseo with 121.
