ELVERSON, PA – The Iona College golf team tied for sixth at the Finegan Invitational at Stonewall North Monday afternoon. The Gaels carded a day two score of 292, and finished the tournament with score of 596 (+36).

“We put together a solid team round today in some pretty good scoring conditions,” said head coach Chris Merce. “Overall, we still need to play more consistently as Sunday’s first round put us too far off the lead going in to today.”

Graduate Taylor Bellemare shot a three-over 73 in the second round, and finished tied for 20th with a score of 149 (+9).  Freshman Kevin Kramarski also tied for 20th with a score of 149, after a second round three-over 73.

Sophomore Brian Fitzpatrick finished tied for 28th after a second round five-over 75 pushed his two day total to 150 (+10).  Senior Tom McHugh finished tied for 31st with a score of 151 (+11), while senior Evan DeLuca shot a two-over 72 in round two, and finished tied for 38th with a score of 152 (+12).

“We have five players right now that are playing well enough to shoot a round of par or better on any given day,” said Merce. “If we are able to put it together as a team we have a good chance to contend in the MAAC Championship next weekend.”
