Iona Rowing Hosts Three At Glen Island Park

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College men’s and women’s rowing teams competed with Fairfield, Sarah Lawrence, and Sacred Heart at Glen Island Park on Sunday, Apr. 19.

On the women’s side, senior coxswain Mary Cain, senior Ashley Franko, juniors Nicole Barclay, Chloe Walker, Kaitlyn Ragolia, Devon McKinley, and Caitlin McGurran, freshmen Rachel Landock, and Serena Yanitelli took second, rowing the first Varsity 8 event in 7:44.83.

The second V8 saw coxswain Bianca Mesqueue, junior Carmen Ayala, sophomore Clair Smith, freshmen Brittany Quirino, Yaritza Ayala, Anna Wyluda, Katie Mulligan, Elise Tarrant, and Danielle Emma finish in second (8:07.0), ahead of Sacred Heart.

For the men’s Varsity Four event, Iona’s Pair team junior Ryan Dronzek and senior Ryan Harding took third at 7:37.1, followed by Iona’s Novice team with freshman coxswain Bryan Chao, freshmen rowers Troy Madden, Abraham Bluestone, Vito Roca, and Elijah Ziobron, finishing at 7:50.1.

The Gaels took third for the Varsity Eight contest, where senior Thomas Baik, junior Brian Fairfield, sophomore Brandon O’Sullivan, Mesqueue, Harding, Madden, Dronzek, Roca, and Bluestone completed the race at 6:37.9, behind Fairfield’s first and second varsity teams.
