Iona Prep Crew Has Sterling Day At Long Island Championships

OYSTER BAY, NY — Iona Prep Crew had an outstanding day at the Long Island Championships in Oyster Bay this past weekend, earning three Silver Medals and one Bronze.

The Varsity 4+ of seniors Hameed Mourani, Brian O’Grady, Christian Laraia and Kyle Griffin with Nick Tornatore as coxswain won a Silver medal in their event.

The Novices also had a great regatta, with the 8+ of Nick Garvey ’18, Zach Falch ’17, Owen O’Meara ’18, Hunter Martin ’17, Patrick Gaughan ’17, Matt Bauer ’17, Andrew Bartholet ’18 and Justin Cassidy ’18 with Joe Kramer ’18 as coxswain winning Silver. Four of these rowers (Garvey, Falch, O’Meara and Martin), along with Joe Kramer again as the coxswain, won a Bronze in the Novice 4+.

The Freshman 4+ of Matt Worth, Dan Paez, Andrew Bartholet and Gibran Mourani with Ryan Kingston as coxswain won a Silver in their race. Bartholet won two silver medals for the day.

Iona Prep Crew travels to Saratoga Springs this weekend to compete in the New York State Championships.
