“Meet Mariano Rivera” Event At New Rochelle Public Library

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The public will have the opportunity to meet Yankee great Mariano Rivera, and receive a signed copy of his acclaimed book, The Closer, at two different events on the evening of May 28th at the New Rochelle Public Library. Mr. Rivera is volunteering his time to help the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library raise funds for a new bookstore. A new facility within the library will allow the 501(c)3 organization to expand their fund-raising efforts which support the library’s extensive, diverse programming and special projects, through their sales of donated, used books.

Interested participants may purchase tickets for one or both of these opportunities: From 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm, a Public Book Signing in Library Lobby will provide an opportunity to meet Mariano Rivera and receive a signed copy of The Closer. The cost per ticket is $50 per person. From 7:45 pm – 8:30 pm, a Presentation & Reception will feature a presentation by Mr. Rivera in the Ossie Davis Theater, a reception of light refreshments in the lobby, and the opportunity to receive a signed copy of The Closer from Mr. Rivera. The cost per ticket is $125 per person. Tickets are limited, and may be obtained by emailing or calling the library’s Community Relations Office:  HYPERLINK “mailto:communityrelations@nrpl.org” communityrelations@nrpl.org or (914) 813-3706.

The Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library is a nonprofit organization that is responsible for funding the majority of the 500-plus public programs conducted at the main library each year. The organization also provides funds for library staff development, conservation and preservation of local history materials, and the purchase of necessary equipment and materials also not covered by the library’s operating budget.  These funds are raised through extraordinary hands-on efforts of accepting donations of books, cds, dvds, games, and puzzles; organizing the materials in the basement warehouse; and constantly stocking the current and out-of-the way book store, carts in the lobby, and monthly Book Sales. A new  Book Store, which will be custom-designed for the east end of library’s lobby, will allow the dedicated volunteers to streamline their operations and sell more books.
