PELHAM, NY — On Thursday, May 14th at 7:30 p.m. The Picture House (TPH) will present a special screening of the Spike Lee produced film Manos Sucias (R; 84 mins.) with a post-film discussion with the film’s director Josef Kubota Wladyka. Wladyka is the recipient of the Best New Narrative Director Award at the Tribeca Film Festival and the Special Jury Award at the Huelva Latin American Film Festival for his work on Manos Sucias.

Manos Sucias follows the story of a desperate fisherman and a naive young man as they embark on a dangerous journey trafficking drugs up the Pacific coast of Colombia. Hidden beneath the waves, they tow a narco-torpedo filled with millions of dollars-worth of cocaine. Together they must brave the war-torn region while navigating the growing tension between them. Shot entirely on location along the Pacific coast of Colombia—in areas that bear the indelible scars of the drug trade—Manos Sucias refuses to glamorize the drug trade but rather seeks to offer a rare glimpse of its devastating effects.

After the screening there will be a post-film discussion and Q&A with the director, Josef Wladyka. Wladyka was born the youngest of three sons. His Japanese mother and Polish father share a deep passion for dance, photography, and cinema. They influenced him to begin experimenting with filmmaking in high school. Since then, his short films and commercials have been screened at festivals around the world and on Jet Blue Airlines; granting him a nomination for a Young Director’s award and the Porsche student advertising award. Wladyka is a Faculty Fellow, and recipient of the Spike Lee Fellowship Award at NYU’s Tisch Gradate Film School. Manos Sucias is his feature film debut.

Tickets to the screening of Manos Sucias and post-film discussion are $12/general admission, $6/members, $10/students and seniors and are available at www.thepicturehouse.org or at the box office, 175 Wolfs Lane, Pelham, NY 10803.
