VALHALLA, NY — Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center—the children’s hospital for the Hudson Valley and Fairfield County—hosted a 12-hour video, board, and mobile app gaming marathon from 10am to 10pm on Saturday, June 13th. The event was a local initiative of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ global Extra Life® fundraising program targeted to the gaming community.
Among the activities were video gaming on XBox One and PS4, tabletop gaming provided by Modern Myths comic book and game shop in Mamaroneck, and Microsoft’s Project Spark presentation—during which representatives from the Microsoft store at The Westchester in White Plains taught participants how to design their own video games.
The goal for the event was to encourage participants to join the hospital’s “1 UP” Extra Life team, which has set a goal of raising $25,000 collectively to help improve the advanced pediatric care at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital.
Teenagers “Up” Awareness for Extra Life
The gaming marathon was made possible by the efforts of New Rochelle High School students, who began fundraising and collecting event registrations earlier this spring. The students dedicated their technology class project, titled “Gamers Give,” to supporting Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital’s “1 UP” Extra Life team.
