New Rochelle Little League Splits Opening Games, Needs Win and a Little Luck Tonight to Make State Championship Game

ROCHESTER, NY — The New Rochelle Little League U-10 team is in Rochester, NY for the New York State Little League finals in the 9-10 age group this week. The team split their first 2 games in pool play.  

New Rochelle Little League dropped the opening game of the tournament on Monday in an 8-2 loss to Greats Kills Little League from Staten Island, NY. New Rochelle jumped out to an 8-2 lead early coming after home runs from Vito Gallello and Luke Nascimento.

Gallello had 5 RBIs including a three-run home run. Luke Nascimento also hit a three-run home run to account for the rest of the scorning by New Rochelle.

Great Kills rallied behind some timely hits and a series of New Rochelle Little League errors to defeat New Rochelle 12-8.

New Rochelle bounced back the next day with a 15-8 win over Horseheads Little League from Chemung County near Corning, NY.

New Rochelle Little League jumped out to a 6-0 lead with early hitting. Luke Nascimento hit 2 home runs and drove in 5 runs and Danny Diedwards had a 2 run double for New Rochelle. Joseph Fama made an inning ending catch to end a Horseheads rally late in the game.

Tonight, New Rochelle Little League plays Guilderland Little League from Albany County.

New Rochelle needs a win coupled with a Great Kills loss plus a favorable tie breaker to advance to Fridays Championship game.
