Lacrosse Welcomes Ten To The Fold For 2016

NEW ROCHELLE, NY –Iona College women’s lacrosse head coach Michelle Mason announced her recruiting class. Ten new student athletes will be wearing Maroon & Gold in the spring of 2016.

Emily Barron is a 5-10 defender from North Syracuse, NY, who most recently competed at Le Moyne College for two seasons. A four-year starter for Cicero-North Syracuse High School, Barron was also a member of the U-15 National Lacrosse team. Barron has also spent time playing for the Women’s Division National Team, Team NY1, Team Upstate, the Under Armour All-America Team, and Central New York Elite Lacrosse Club (CNYELC). She was named to the Second Team All-League in 2009 and was named to the Second Team All-CNY in 2010 and 2011. In 2011, she was also ranked 15th amongst top defenders in the country by ESPNHS, and the 80th best player in the nation.

Katie Beyer is a 5-9 midfielder from Carlsbad CA, and Carlsbad High School. Beyer was a four year varsity at Carlsbad, two-time team captain. In addition, she was a two-time All-League Second Team selection, San Diego All Star, and Second Team CIT honoree. Beyond her athletic achievements, Beyer was the recipient of the San Diego Section CIF Sportsmanship Award, and was a Union Tribune All-Academic Team selection. Beyer’s brother, Mark, was a former member of the Wagner College men’s lacrosse team while her other sibling Spencer currently competes for the Seahawks.

Samantha Caruselle is a 5-4 midfielder from Staten Island, NY and Tottenville High School. Tottenville finished 18-1 overall and 6-0 in the league play last season, earning its fourth consecutive City Championship.  As a senior, Caruselle finished the season with 56 goals and 17 assists and received All-League honors from the PSAL.  During her junior year, Caruselle was the highest scoring attack player on her team, finishing with 28 goals and eight assists.  MaxPreps.com ranked Caruselle as the 64th best recruit in the nation, and third overall in the state. She also competed in the 2015 NYC Mayor’s Cup Lacrosse All-Star Games for the PSAL Girls All-Stars.

Michelle Parker Brown is a 5-1 midfielder from Silver Spring, MD and Northwood High School, where she was Team MVP three years in a row. In addition to MVP, Brown was name the program’s top offensive player. Brown was named to the 2015 All-County and All-Division teams as a senior.  Michelle’s father, Roger, was a former defensive back in the National Football League and was a member of the New York Giants’ Super Bowl XXV winning team in 1991.

Christine Gironda is a 6-1 midfielder, coming from Centereach High School, where she was a four-year varsity lacrosse and soccer player. Gironda was an all-league, all-tournament, and all-county player during her time in high school. In addition, she played for the Long Island Top Guns Purple club team under the coaching of Shannon Smith. Off the field, Gironda was Vice President of her class, and a member of the National Honor Society.

Danielle Keenan is a 5-8 midfielder from Hopewell Junction, NY and Our Lady of Lourdes.  As a senior, Keenan was the Lourdes Athlete of the Year. In addition, Keenan was an All-Section honoree during her senior year, and a two time All-League selection. Keenan collected her 100th career goal as a senior. Keenan was also a member of the Dutchess Monarch club team.

Shannon McCaffrey is a 5-9 goalie from Hauppauge, NY and Hauppauge High School, where she was a three-year varsity player. In her final two season at St. Anthony’s, her squad reached the Suffolk County Championships.  She also competed on the club team Elevate, where she was voted MVP in 2015. In addition, McCaffrey was rewarded the Hauppauge High School 2015 Character Award for exhibiting good character on and off the playing field. She was a recipient of Hauppauge High School Lead award as well.

Libby Miller is a 5-11 attack/midfielder from Colorado Springs, CO. Miller is a three-year starter for the two-time Colorado state champions Air Academy High School girls lacrosse team. Miller, a National Honor Society member who has also lettered academically since freshman year at The Classical Academy, is the first TCA female student to sign a National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse at a Division I school. An attack and center midfielder, in four seasons Miller accumulated 114 goals and 54 assists, while her Air Academy lacrosse teams compiled a 61-13 overall record and won the 2012 and 2014 Colorado State championships. As a junior in 2014, she was selected Academic All-State First Team, All-State honorable mention, Colorado Springs Gazette All-Area Second Team and All-Southern Conference Second Team. Also a 2013-14 varsity letter-winner in basketball at TCA, she played club lacrosse for Denver Summit from 2010-2014. Miller is also a four-year member of TCA’s Student Council and earned 2012-13 first team All-State Yearbook production recognition. Miller graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors. Miller’s mother, Liz, competed as a swimmer at Villanova while her father, Craig, was a professional indoor box lacrosse player with the Windsor Warlocks.

Maureen Murphy is a 5-5 midfielder, from Monroe, CT and Masuk High School, where she was a four year varsity starter in both lacrosse and soccer. During her senior year, Murphy was the captain of both her soccer and lacrosse teams. Murphy scored 40 goals this season, and was named Team MVP. Murphy was a two-time All South West conference honoree in soccer and earned also earned All-Conference honors in lacrosse. Her father, Richard Murphy played lacrosse for St. John’s and her mother, Ann Marie Murphy was part of the St. John’s cheerleading team.

Grace Tierney is a 5-9 midfielder from Huntington, NY and St. Anthony’s High School, where she was a member of the Academic Honor Roll, and also ran varsity track in addition to lacrosse. She was a two-time CHSAA League Champion, and also played on the Long Island Yellow Jackets club team.
