WHITE PLAINS, NY –The Iona College men’s soccer team opened its 2015 campaign with a 1-1 draw at James Madison in the first game of the Fairfield Inn By Marriott JMU Invitational at University Park. Sophomore Marcos Nunez scored the game-tying goal in the 58th minute for the Maroon & Gold.

James Madison scored first in the contest when Toby Appleton struck a ball from 25-yards out into the back of the net just over 16 minutes into the contest.

Nunez roofed a shot attempt past Dukes’ netminder Kyle Morton after receiving a through pass from rookie Daniel Ocana Garcia to make the score 1-1 12 minutes into the second frame.

The two teams played a scoreless 20 minutes of overtime.

Morton and Iona keeper Julian Petrello each had one save. The Gaels out shot James Madison 11-10 in the contest. The Dukes had all three overtime with the Maroon & Gold playing a man down due to a red card with less than two minutes to play in regulation.

Iona completes action in Virginia against Radford Sunday at noon.
