Capitol One Caper: New Rochelle police responded to the report of a fraud on Gail Drive in New Rochelle on August 11th.
The complainant walked into police headquarters and stated he had noticed his credit score dropped significantly. He had his daughter call a credit agency and they told her he had a debt of $30,000 to a Capital One credit card. He contacted the bank and they canceled the account. He stated that Capital One said they are forwarding the bill to an address he does not recognize.
Grey Goose Getaway: New Rochelle police responded to a report of a larceny in the past on Palmer Avenue at about 3 p.m. on August 11th.
The complainant, a store manager stated that two people with a child stole two bottles of Grey Goose vodka and a bottle of wine totaling $140. The larceny occurred on August 9th between 5:50 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Another Heritage Homes Drug Bust: New Rochelle police arrested a man with last name Webb on a drug charge with an outstanding warrant in Mount Vernon at Heritage Homes at about 10:00 pm on August 12th.
New Rochelle police observed a gray Acura parked in front of 33 Colonel Lee Archer Boulevard, a known drug area. While speaking to the person in the vehicle police detected an overwhelming odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Please located and removed a clear medium size baggie containing suspected marijuana from Mr. Webb’s front left pocket of a shorts. A warrant check indicated Webb has an active warrant out of Mount Vernon Police Department. Webb was placed under arrest. Mount Vernon Police Department were advised.
Longtime Friend Writes Checks to Herself: New Rochelle police responded to a report of a fraud on Pelham Road on August 13th.
Complainant stated that checks were missing from her checkbook and when she contacted her bank she learned that 13 checks, totaling $11,000, had been issued to a long time friend. The complainant stated that she does not recall giving her friend this much money and did not authorize her to sign checks.
Cigarette Thief Pays Up: New Rochelle police responded to report of a larceny in the past at the United Gourmet Deli on North Avenue at Sickles Avenue at about 7:45 a.m. on August 17th.
The complaint, a clerk at the deli, stated that at about 7:15 a.m. a male grabbed a pack of cigarettes from behind the counter and walked out of the deli without paying for the cigarettes. Complainant advised that he did not witness the incident because he had his back to the suspect. He was made aware of the incident by another customer and was able to confirm the pack of cigarettes was indeed stolen by reviewing the camera surveillance system. The suspect was described as a male/white bald head and tattoos on his arms, wearing a red T-shirt and gray cargo shorts.
In the video, the suspect can be seen walking up to the counter, reaching behind the register, and grabing what appears to be a pack of cigarettes when the complainant turns round. Complaint stated does not know the suspect’s name or address but that the suspect is a regular customer weekday mornings and possibly a patient at the methadone clinic at Sickles Avenue. Complaint say that the prospective cigarettes is $10 and he wishes to pursue charges at this time.
Complainant later contacted police again to say that he was able to contact the suspect at the methadone clinic on Sickles Avenue and was able to resolve the issue without assistance and no longer wish to pursue criminal charges.
Who Were Those Masked Men? New Rochelle police responded to the report of an assault at the El Paradiso Bar at 103 Union Avenue at about 3:00 a.m. on August 17th.
When police arrived, the complainant, a Spanish speaker, was bleeding from the face and head. He was intoxicated. Complaint stated he was jumped by four dark skin Male/Hispanics about 6 feet tall, approximately 30 years-old, wearing masks covering their face and wearing dark clothes.
He stated that the four male black stole his Apple iPhone valued at $700 and $600 in cash. He stated he later saw the four males running towards Grove Avenue from Warren Street. He was transported by ambulance to Montefiore Hospital he was treated and released.
At the emergency room, police interviewed the victim who stated that he left La Clave at 596 Main Street to go to El Paradiso and that while walking over the Center Avenue Bridge he noticed that two of the four males who later beat and robbed him were walking behind him. As he was approaching the Chinese restaurant at Union Avenue and Warren Street, one of the two males grabbed hi, from behind in a choke hold at which point he gave them his phone and money. He ended up on the ground with all four men punching and kicking him. He also stated they were yelling things at him in Spanish
The victim stated he believed he might know who had something to do with the robbery because prior to getting robbed and beaten he was dancing and talking with a female at La Clave when a man told him to leave her alone. He couldn’t remember the female’s name or the male but this incident happened inside La Clave and he believes this unknown male was involved somehow. Is impossible and ID can be made due to the masks. In the area of the robbery police did observe cameras at the bread factory at 30 Grove Avenue that possibly caught the suspects on video.
Heineken Heist Nets Almost Two Bucks: New Rochelle police responded to the report of a larceny of Heineken beer on August 16th at about 11 p.m. at Madaba Deli at 330 Huguenot Street.
The complainant, the store owner, stated that four Male/Blacks, possibly teens, entered the store. He stated to these individuals had been in the store earlier in the night with what appeared to be a fake ID. One of the males grabbed a 22 ounce bottle of Heineken beer, dropped $1.25 on the counter and left with three other people. They fled in Lexus, southbound on Center Avenue than eastbound on Main Street.
Complainant stated the actual cost of the beer was $3.50 therefore he was taking a loss of $1.75.
Egyptian Passport Shuffle: New Rochelle police responded to report of a larceny on Pelham Road August 16th at about 3 p.m.
Complaint states he believes his sister-in-law and his nephew stole his passport and they are demanding $12,000 from him to return it. Complainant states they live with them and she had sent him a text message showing pictures of the passport and the request of $12,000 to return it. A picture of his passport was shown with her name is the sender but the texts were written in “Egyptian” according to the police report (likely meaning “Arabic”).
Police spoke with sister-in-law and her son. They state they do not have the passport and denied requesting $12,000 from the complainant, and deny texting the complaint this information. She would not provide her cellular phone to show that she did not send the messages.
The sister-in-law, in turn, stated that her husband had possession of her passport and was refusing to give it to her.
The husband of the sister-in-law states he does not possess his wife’s passport.
The sister-in-law then stated that she wished to leave the location to move in with her family. She retrieved her personal belongings and began to leave at which point the husband of the sister-in-law become extremely irate.
Police were unable to translate the context of the text message and due to the lack of physical evidence in the verbal statements provided they will continue to investigate.
The Old Chocolate Turtles in the Pants Trick Backfires: New Rochelle police responded to a report of a larceny on August 16th at about 1:00 p.m. at the CVS Store at 222 North Avenue in New Rochelle.
The complainant, a store security official, stated that a Male/Black in a long gray sleeve shirt was observed stuffing something in his pants and leaving the store without paying for the item. He stated the man was last seen heading towards Library Green.
Police later observed a Emanuel Goodman, a man matching the description given by CVS security, inside the Library Green. A search of the surrounding area turned up a partially eaten, small bag of DeMet’s Turtles Minis chocolate near Goodman’s feet. Goodman spontaneously uttered “”I stole the chocolate” at which point he was placed under arrest and charged with Petit Larceny, a Class A Misdemeanor.
Publishers Clearinghouse Scam: New Rochelle police responded to a report of a larceny in New Rochelle on August 14th at about 10 a.m.
The complainant stated that she received a letter the mail from Publishers Clearinghouse stating she one $2.5 million. There was a check in the envelope in the amount of $6950.50 that was to cover taxes and other expenses. The letter stated the complainant had to cash the check in order to get the $2.5 million. Complaint stated that she received calls from a person calling himself “Mr. Jenkins” who claims to be from the FBI. Mr. Jenkins told her to cash the check. Other unknown people have called about the check also wanting her to cash the check.
Complaint was advised this was fraudulent and not to cash the check. Complaint was advised that this is a common scam and done from overseas. Complainant advised that she would not cash the check.
Shirt Thieves Strike in West End: New Rochelle police responded to the report of a robbery on 3rd Street on August 16th at about 9:20 a.m.
Complainant stated that he was on third or fourth Street when he was attacked by four male “Latins” who stole his shirt. He was unable to provide any description of the attackers, why he was attacked or where the incident occurred. Complaint stated did not wish to pursue the matter any further and wanted to go home.
The complainant appeared to be impaired by alcohol, according to the police report.
Apple Headphones, 9 Quarters Stolen from Car: New Rochelle police responded to a report of a Larceny from a Motor Vehicle on Storer Avenue on August 16th at about 8 a.m.
The owner of the vehicle stated someone ransacked his car. He said he last say his vehicle at 1:00 a.m. and then again at 8:00 a.m. when he became aware of what occurred. He stated that $4.25 quarters and a set of white Apple headphones were both missing from the car.
Taxi Driver Stiffed for $115: New Rochelle police responded to a report of theft of services at 309 North Avenue at about 5:00 a.m. on August 16th.
The complainant, a taxi driver, stated that he drove a woman and her child to the location in his taxi. The fare was $155.00. The woman gave the driver $40 and said she would go upstairs to get the remaining $115 but she never came back.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic/Female about 5’ 6”, 160 pounds with black hair wearing a peach dress. He described the child is being nine or 10 years old.
Complainant and police observed a third-floor window for the right turn on and off again after the incident occurred.
