NEW ROCHELLE, NY — September 10, 2015 – How can a bridge be a work of art?  A group of engineering professors from Virginia Tech, University of Massachusetts and Morgan State University will share their concept of structural art, which blends aesthetics and infrastructure to provide value and meaning to works of engineering.  This is just one of the innovative sessions that will be part of the 3rd Annual Imagination, Inquiry, & Innovation Institute. The conference, hosted jointly by The College of New Rochelle and The Maxine Greene Center for Aesthetic Education and Social Imagination, will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The College of New Rochelle, 29 Castle Place, New Rochelle, NY.

This interdisciplinary institute brings together imaginative thinkers and practitioners from a broad range of fields to question the status quo, move ideas and best practices forward, and share innovative perspectives.

The daylong event will feature a number of sessions on a variety of topics including: Integrating and Honoring the role of “A” in STEAM programming: Embracing the Art and Science of Women’s Voices and Nature Journaling; and Storytelling and Narrative: Combining Aesthetics and Healthcare.

The Institute will also include a special performance of Wild Hair by Jean Taylor. Taylor’s approach to theatrical clowning, as it relates to actor training, has been published in Movement for Actors, Allworth Press. Taylor has a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Denver, studied Dance and Choreography at California Institute of the Arts, and earned an M.F.A. in Directing from Brooklyn College.

Conference Co-Chair Ruth Zealand notes, “This is a great opportunity to engage and inspire the educational community and showcase the innovative methods being used to integrate the disciplines of STEAM. This Institute builds on the College’s long standing tradition of service and commitment to social equity.”
