Women’s Volleyball Takes Two; Improves to 7-4

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle Women’s Volleyball team won both matches of a home tri-match on Saturday to improve to 7-4 overall on the season.  The Blue Angels defeated both Elmira College and SUNY Plattsburgh by scores of 3-1.  In the opener, CNR edged Elmira by set scores of 25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 25-21 and then later got past Plattsburgh by scores of 25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 25-23.

For the day, CNR was paced by sophomore Fabiola Padilla Rios (San Juan, PR) who racked up 28 kills, 45 digs and five aces.  Junior Tiany Perez Diaz (Juncos, PR) was big in game two as she tallied 10 kills and added nine digs, while classmate Melanie Ann Lopez Soto (Gurabo, PR) led the way in game one with 23 assists and 11 digs, while adding six kills from setter position.  She added 15 more assists in game two.  Sophomore Tamara Beckford (Bronx, NY) led all players on the day with five total blocks, including three solos in the finale.

Sophomore Rosa Angeles (Yonkers, NY) and junior Indigo Flowers (San Francisco, CA) each had solid days on defense, racking up 20 and 21 digs respectively. While freshmen Stephanie Garcia (Chino, CA) added 16 digs between both games and sophomore Caitlin Harrison (Bronx, NY) added two solo block against Plattsburgh.

CNR will continue its homestand when they host the College of Staten Island on Thursday night. First serve is at 7:00pm.
