NEW ROCHELLE, NY — County Executive Robert P. Astorino invites people of all ages to lace up their running shoes for a road race and festival, featuring a host of exhibitors, during the 2015 Healing Half Marathon and 10K on Sunday, Oct. 11 on the Bronx River Parkway beginning at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
“Come on out to support Westchester Medical Center and get some great exercise while you take in the fall foliage along the scenic Bronx River Parkway,” Astorino said.
Now in its 12th year, the running festival – formerly known as the Westchester Medical Center Running Marathon – was renamed to reflect its goal of raising support for the Westchester Medical Center Foundation.
The event features a half marathon (13.1 miles) and a 10K (6.55 miles) for runners, and a half marathon for walkers.
Young runners ages 12 and under can compete in a non-competitive Kids Fun Run, which starts at the County Center. Registration for this event is free and available only on race day.
The half marathon begins at 8 a.m. for walkers and at 8:30 a.m. for runners; the 10K begins at 9 a.m.; and the Kids Fun Run at 10:45 a.m. An awards presentation follows at approximately 11 a.m. All events will be held rain or shine.
Advance registration fee is $70 for the half marathons (14 years of age or older); and $40 for the 10K (12 years of age or older) October 11. Fees increase on race day. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Go to genesisadventures.com for more information and a registration form.
The Westchester County Center is located at 198 Central Avenue in White Plains and is accessible via Metro North Railroad.
