Marist Outlasts Iona Volleyball In Four Sets

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at McCann Arena. Rookie Claire Archibald and senior Kiana McAuley Pomeroy each reached double-digit kill totals to lead the Gaels.

Archibald posted 14 kills – two shy of season best – and recorded nine digs in the loss. McAuley-Pomeroy set career-highs with 10 kills, 20 attack attempts and a .450 hitting percentage. Freshman Mia Bonsignore had six kills and hit .263 and classmate Amanda Gannon added five kils and 11 digs.

Senior setter Natalie Ziskin posted a 31-assist, 10-dig double-double. She had four kills on 12 attempts for a .333 hitting percentage. Freshman libero Jessica Paolucci had 14 digs while rookie defensive specialist Kait Ferretti posted seven.

Marist was led by Kelsey Lahey, Kelsey Ediger and Courtney Shaw who combined for 46 kills and 29 digs in the win. Setter Amanda Schlegel had 49 assists.

After dropping the first two sets 25-20 and 25-14, the Gaels earned a third set win, 25-22. The Red Foxes completed the match winning set four 25-17.

Following 13 matches to start the season outside of New Rochelle, the Iona opens Hynes Center slate Saturday (Sep. 26) vs. Niagara.
