WHITE PLAINS, NY — Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) is hosting the FARE Walk for Food Allergy in Westchester on Oct. 10 to raise critically needed funds to support the 15 million Americans living with food allergies and to raise awareness of food allergy, a life-altering and potentially life-threatening disease.

Many FARE Walk for Food Allergy events this year, including the Walk in Westchester scheduled three weeks before Halloween, will be incorporating activities to celebrate FARE’s Teal Pumpkin Project™, a national initiative that promotes safety, inclusion and respect of individuals managing food allergies by encouraging households to display a teal pumpkin and provide non-food treats for trick-or-treaters.

The FARE Walk for Food Allergy in Westchester, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 10 at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle, has raised approximately $1.2 million to support life-changing research and food allergy education and advocacy programs since 2010. This year’s walk will feature a photo booth, caricature artist, face painting, soccer training, bounce houses and Teal Pumpkin Project™ crafts.

The FARE Walk for Food Allergy, presented by Mylan Specialty L.P., raises critical funds and awareness each year to support FARE in its mission to improve the quality of life and the health of individuals with food allergies, and to provide them hope through the promise of new treatments.

“Fifteen million people in the United States are living with food allergy, a life-altering and potentially life-threatening disease,” said Donna McKelvey, senior vice president and chief development officer at FARE. “It is for each of these individuals and their families that we work to find life-changing treatments, educate, advocate – and of course, walk. Every step we take and every dollar raised brings us closer to the day when we say FAREwell to food allergies.”

In the United States, 1 in 13 children has a food allergy – roughly two in every classroom – and a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency room every three minutes.

Participants can sign up to walk individually or as part of a team. For more information, or to register or volunteer, visit www.foodallergywalk.org/westchester2015. Sponsorship opportunities remain available, enabling businesses to show their support for families who are managing food allergies.
