Carrie Edythe (Stroud) Thompson Obituary

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — On September 21, 2015, retired educator in the public school system of Yonkers, NY and beloved wife of the late William H. Thompson, Sr., passed away in New Rochelle, NY in her home surrounded by family. Carrie was born on November 9, 1933 in Taylortown, NC. Carrie received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC in 1954. Carrie dedicated her life to serving her community as an educator in Kinston, NC and in Yonkers, NY. She served as a class leader in St. Catherine AME Zion Church and was active in civic groups, including the New Rochelle branch of the NAACP and the Red Hat Society.

Carrie is survived by her children, G. Marie Thompson (Piscataway, NJ), Ramona Reittie (New Rochelle, NY), John [Andrea] Thompson (Maryland), Byl Thompson and James Thompson (both of New York, NY). She is survived by 4 grandchildren Sir-Justin Reittie, Alyssa [Michael] Watson, John the III and William A.J. Thompson as well as 5 great-grandchildren, Michael Watson Jr., Aliyah, and Madison Reittie and Ania and Elijah Thompson. She was a sister to Kenneth Stroud (Raleigh, NC), Lucille Smith Weaver (Wilson, NC) and beloved sister-in-law to Howard & Hattie Stevens (Baltimore, MD), Charles Lea and Catherine Thompson (both of Burlington, NC). She was a dear cousin to Delilah Holmes (Davidsonville, MD), Beverly Highland Lucas (Asheville, NC), Rose Highland Sharpe (Pinehurst, NC) and Richard and Gladys Highland (Charlotte, NC). She was a wonderful godmother to Philip Tuthill, (Bronx, NY). She was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at St. Catherine AME Zion Church, 19 Lincoln Avenue, New Rochelle, NY; viewing: 11am-12:45pm, funeral: 1 pm.
