Men’s Cross Country Places Eighth at Osprey Open

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s cross country team placed eighth at the Osprey Invitational hosted by Stockton University in Galloway, New Jersey, on Saturday.  The scored 222 points, just eight points shy of seventh-place Georgian Court.

Kipkoech Collins, a newcomer to the team from Kenya, placed 19th overall, with a season-best time of 28:03 in the 8K race.  He improved on last week’s time by :59 seconds.  Other top finishes for the Mustangs include Tevin Aitken (29:17) and Jaymes Dennison (29:40).  Both of those times were personal bests for the two competitors.

Krishane Bowers turned in one the best performances of the freshman with a time of 31:54, a season-best run.  He dropped five minutes off his time from a week ago.  Qasim Ray clocked a mark of 32:00 followed by Rajay Hinds of 35:08.

Rounding out the Monroe field was sophomore, Jamel Johnson (35:09) and freshman Brian Rodriguez (35:11).  After that, Christian Patterson finished in 37:12 and Richardson Pierre broke the tape in a time of 37:56.

Head Coach Shirvon Greene commented on the team’s performance.  “I’m very happy with the progression, hard work and dedication these guys put forward today.  They all performed fabulously and lots of personal best times were set today.  It’s really beginning to come together for us.”

The Monroe College men’s cross country team returns to action on Saturday, October 3, when they compete at the Highlander Invitational hosted by NJIT.  The race gets underway from BRanch Brook Park in New Jersey at 10:00 AM.
