NEW YORK, NY — Although the vast majority of small businesses are not required to provide health insurance for their employees, there may be practical, economic and business benefits in doing so. But identifying and understanding the different options that are available to small businesses can be difficult.
For this reason, Assemblyman Steve Otis (D-Rye) and the Women’s Enterprise Development Center Inc. (WEDC) are pleased to announce that their annual Small Business & Economic Development Forum will focus this year on healthcare options for small businesses. The forum will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, from 8:00 – 10:30 a.m., at the Mamaroneck Town Center, 740 West Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck.
The forum will feature a distinguished panel of government and industry experts, joined by small business owners, who will provide an overview of the marketplace for small business healthcare plans and discuss the benefits of purchasing coverage, as well as the practical aspects of how, where and when to enroll. Speakers will include: David Pitaniello, Regional Director of the Small Business Marketplace, NY State of Health; Hana Rubin, Chief Operating Officer of the Maxon Companies, and small business proprietors who have successfully navigated the healthcare marketplace for their businesses and employees.
“Attracting and retaining quality workers, as well as the ability to take advantage of group rates, may be among the benefits of offering health insurance coverage to small business employees,” observed Assemblyman Otis. “But learning about all the available healthcare options in this rapidly changing marketplace can be daunting. I hope that this forum will provide small business owners with the tools they need to make the right decisions for their businesses and employees.”
WEDC Executive Director Anne Janiak said: “WEDC is pleased to cosponsor this forum focusing on healthcare options for small business owners. Having experts available to provide options and answer questions on this complex topic will benefit our small business community.”
At the conclusion of the healthcare presentation, program attendees will have the opportunity to gather informational materials and meet one-on-one with representatives of various government agencies and private organizations. At previous small business forums, attendees have found the ability to discuss their unique business needs with agency representatives to be a particularly valuable part of the event.
