Films, Food and Fun for Everyone

Calling all movie junkies! Westchester County provides one of the most exciting film festivals in the Hudson Valley region with the third annual YoFi Fest (Yonkers Film Festival). This event is a three-day movie festival where audiences and filmmakers get to talk, just not during the movies. YoFi Fest will take place Thursday, October 22 through Sunday, October 25. On opening night, guests will have the opportunity to see a screening of Erik Greenberg Anjou’s documentary Deli Man, which takes a look at the vanishing traditional New York Jewish delicatessen and the characters who run them. Prior to the screening, guests will be able to celebrate and enjoy the culture and cuisine from the film by helping to judge YoFi Fest’s “Best Pastrami” contest with delicious tastings from Liebman’s Kosher Delicatessen, Harry & Ida’s Meat and Supply Co. and more.  Also, live music from The Westchester Center for Jazz and Contemporary Music and beverages from Yonkers Brewing Company will be available. Fall Hudson Valley Restaurant Week. taking place Monday, November 2 through Sunday, November 15, is the largest and most successful dining event in the region. With more than 100 Westchester County restaurants participating, it is a must for all foodies. During Restaurant Week, participating restaurants offer a three-course, prix fixe dinner menu for $29.95 per person (plus tax, beverage and gratuity) and may offer a three-course lunch menu for $20.95 per person (plus tax, beverage and gratuity).  Participating venues include well-known establishments such as Crabtree’s Kittle House and X2O Xaviars on the Hudson. The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, will tip off its second season at the historic Westchester County Center in White Plains on Thursday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m., facing the Maine Red Claws, the NBA D-League affiliate of the Boston Celtics. The match-up highlights a 24-home-game schedule. Season tickets for the 2015-16 season are on sale now and start at $10 per game. Kicking off on Friday, November 27, the second annual Westchester’s Winter Wonderland is designed to be bigger and better this year with several new features for families to enjoy. The New York Rangers will sponsor the ice skating rink, which will be double the size of last year’s rink and the same size as the rink at Rockefeller Center in New York City. To be named “RangersTown,” the rink will give visitors the opportunity to meet New York Rangers alumni and receive fun giveaways. Other new features to the event include a third amusement ride, an expanded Shopping Village of artisan crafts and gifts, as well as a new heated entertainment tent with holiday programming to add to signature attractions that include the Santa Experience.
