Monroe Volleyball Goes 3-1 in Jacksonville Tournament

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe volleyball team went 3-1 in the Florida State College – Jacksonville tournament over the weekend.  The Mustangs got wins over Gadsden, Central Florida College and Florida State College-Jacksonville.  Monroe fell to Miami Dade. The team is now 34-2 on the season.

The Mustangs opened play with a 3-0 win over Gadsden.  The scores of the sets were 25-15, 25-21 and 25-16.  Barbara Maximiano posted a match-best 15 kills.  Indira Rojas had 21 assists, while Neysha Gonzalez collected nine digs.  Game two saw Monroe fall to Miami Dade 3-0.  The scores of the sets were 25-16, 25-17 and 26-24.  Ashely Ramos finished with 12 kills and nine digs.  Rojas had 24 assists and seven digs.

Monroe opened Saturday with a 3-0 win over Central Florida College.  The scores with the Patriots were 25-19, 27-25, 25-22.  Cristen Coryatt fell just short of a double-double in this match with nine kills and ten digs.  The second set, which went to the Mustangs, 27-25, was decided by a Maximiano kill and a serve from Gonzalez that was misplayed.  The final game of the day saw Monroe defeat Florida State College at Jacksonville, 3-2.  Maximiano had 23 kills, Ramos killed 21 and Rojas collected 47 assists.

The Monroe College volleyball team returns to action on Tuesday, October 20, at 6:00 PM, when they host Nassau.  The game is team’s Dig Pink game for breast cancer awareness.  The team will wear pink on their uniforms to help promote breast cancer awareness.
