NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College women’s soccer team faced one of its toughest challenges of the season on Saturday in Schoolcraft College and for nearly 85 minutes, it looked like Monroe’s seven game winning streak would come to an end, but a pair of Aline Delima goals in the final six minutes of play lifted the Mustangs to a 2-1 win in a game played in Perrysburg, Ohio.
Schoolcraft jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 11:02 mark when the scored on a penalty kick. Despite allowing the goal, Tiffany Martinez made a pair of saves to preserve the win. The game stayed at 1-0 until the 83rd minute when Monroe got the equalizer. Maia Wiliams played the ball to Aline Delima, who beat the goalie to tie the game at 1-1. Almost three minutes later, the Mustangs jumped ahead 2-1, when Delima finished a penalty kick after Monroe earned a foul in the Schoolcraft penalty area. Brianna McGrath and Maribel Portillo each had shots on goal for the Mustangs.
The team has now won eight-straight contests and is currently 8-1 on the season. The Monroe College women’s soccer team returns to action on Sunday, October 18, when they face Owens Community College. The opening kick is slated for 3:00 PM.
