NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A day after defeating Schoolcraft College, the Monroe College women’s soccer team made it a perfect roadtrip, with a 7-1 drubbing Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio, on Sunday. The win was the teams ninth-straight as Monroe improved to 9-1 on the season.
It was an inauspicious start for Owens in the game, as the Mustangs got a 1-0 lead on an own-goal by Owens in the 24th minute. The game stayed at 1-0 past the half-hour mark, but a goal from Anna Hess at 33:21 doubled the score for Monroe, to 2-0. Delima added her name to the scoresheet with an unassisted marker 0:15 prior to the half.
Maribel Portillo, who has been on one the hottest players for the Mustangs lately, opened up the half by finishing a goal off a feed from Maia Williams at 55;59. The Mustangs led 4-0. Just past the hour mark, Monroe pushed the score to 5-0 when Portillo hooked up with Delima for her second tally of the contest. Owens got on the board at 66:15 to make the score 5-1. Monroe closed out the game with a pair of unassisted markers from Delima and Nicole Rivera.
The Monroe College women’s soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 24, at 1:00 PM, when they host the Community College of Rhode Island at City Park in New Rochelle.
