Iona Volleyball Edged At Niagara

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College volleyball team dropped a hard fought five set decision at Niagara Sunday afternoon. After rallying to tie the match at 2-2 with a 34-32 fourth set win, the Gaels fell 15-12 in the deciding frame in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest on the road.

Freshman OH Amanda Gannon led the Maroon & Gold with 14 kills and 18 digs. She hit .200 with an ace and a block. Fellow rookie OH Claire Archibald had 13 kills and 13 digs while rookie MH Mia Bonsignore posted 10 kills while hitting .364 with three blocks. Junior MH Karly White added nine kills.

Setters Natalie Ziskin and Emma Rose combined for 50 assists. Rose had 29 with 10 digs while Ziskin posted 21 and eight digs. Freshman libero Jessica Paolucci had a team-best 25 digs in the loss.

Niagara was led by Nicole Matheis’ 25 kills, Alexis Gray’s 56 assists and Rylee Hunt’s 42 digs.

The Gaels continue MAAC play this weekend at home vs. Marist and Siena.
