Red Ribbon Week in New Rochelle Schools

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Red Ribbon Week in the CSDNR was a great success! At ALMS, Executive Board members of the NRHS SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club presented realistic skits to 8th graders addressing how to use refusal skills when confronted with peer pressure and situations involving drugs/alcohol. High school student athletes also spoke to 7th graders at an assembly regarding making healthy choices, resisting peer pressure and good decision making. Sixth graders heard from parent/anesthesiologist Thalia Segal about the teenage brain and the potential consequences of substance use/abuse. All week, high school and middle school parents received a once-daily series of informative emails noting the proven value of parents talking to their children about avoiding use of drugs and alcohol.

This week, in partnership with NR FOCUS (Families Organized to Curb the Use of Substances), a parent assembly, “Helping Your Teen Succeed”, will be held Thursday, November 5 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the ALMS Library.
