ArtsWestchester Announces Call for Nominations for 2016 Arts Award Luncheon

WHITE PLAINS, NY — ArtsWestchester announced a call for nominations for its 2016 Arts Awards luncheon.  The coveted Arts Award recognizes individuals and organizations whose vision, commitment and leadership enrich Westchester, its communities, and its citizens. Nominations are accepted in the following categories: Arts Patron, Artist, Arts Organization, Community, and Education. Nominees must live, work, or have some connection with Westchester County.  The nomination deadline is Monday, November 30.  For more information, visit: artsw.org/artsaward.

Past recipients of the award have included former New York State Governor Nelson Rockefeller, Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins, the Westchester Philharmonic, the Katonah Museum of Art, Al and Dee DelBello and many others.

“This event recognizes the overwhelming amount of talent that our county has to offer,” said ArtsWestchester CEO Janet Langsam. “We proudly honor those artists and organizations that have helped make Westchester County a special place to live and work.”

ArtsWestchester will present the awards at the Annual Arts Award luncheon on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown.

Nomination Categories:

Arts Patron:  A person who lives or works in Westchester County and has made a significant contribution to the arts through his/her extraordinary leadership, personal commitment and philanthropic activities, providing consistent support of the arts, without direct financial compensation, to advance the arts in Westchester.

Artist:  An artist who lives or works in Westchester County, and whose achievements in his/her discipline are nationally recognized.  Candidates must have produced a significant body of work that demonstrates a unique and compelling vision and that has had an impact on the cultural world and on the general public.

Arts Organization:  A Westchester County non-profit arts organization that has made important contributions to the growth of Westchester’s cultural life over a significant period of time and has had an impact beyond its immediate community.

Community:  An artist, individual group organization or agency that has demonstrated extraordinary vision and leadership in using the arts to enhance community life, increase access to cultural experiences, or to enrich the county’s cultural heritage.  Candidates have a long-standing involvement in the arts rather than involvement in a one-time initiative.

Education:  An artist, individual, group, school district, or organization who, through extraordinary vision and leadership, had enriched education in Westchester
