Women’s Basketball Opens Up With Win Over Cedar Crest

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Behind 23 points and 16 rebounds from senior Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ), the College of New Rochellle Women’s Basketball team opened the 2015-16 season with a 70-59 victory over Cedar Crest in the opening round of the CNR Tip-Off Tournament.  With the win, CNR advances to play Notre Dame College (MD) in the finals Sunday at 3:00pm.  Notre Dame defeated Bryn Mawr College 60-50.

The Blue Angels jumped out to a 17-11 lead after the first period and expanded its lead to 40-32 at halftime.  Cedar Crest would chip away at the lead in the third as they outscored CNR 16-11, which closed the lead to 51-48.  But, the Blue Angels closed out the game with a 19-11 fourth quarter surge to secure the win.

Sophomore Hannah Cambel (Houston, TX) hit five shots from beyond the arc helping her to 17 points on the day. Freshmen Amirror Dixon (New Rochelle, NY) also hit double digits with 12 points to go along with a game-high six assists.  Sophomore Caitlin Harrison (Bronx, NY) rounded out the double-digit scorers for CNR as she tallied 10 points.  As a team, CNR took care of the ball, committing only 9 turnovers compared to Cedar Crest’s 13 miscues.

CNR will face off against Notre Dame (MD) tomorrow at 3pm.  The consolation game between Bryn Mawr and Cedar Crest will tip at 1:00pm.
