NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Barnard Early Childhood Center Awash in Red and Purple! Students have been learning about money, counting, and sorting while raising money for Pennies for Patients, a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in memory of beloved TA, Yolanda Blanco. Students brought in contributions and were invited to attach a paper penny to a poster of a giant jar. When the collecting was over, students raised $3,100. Principal Joanna Genovese made the grand announcement in front of Ms. Blanco’s family and Barnard staff. In addition to these efforts, Barnard staff wore purple on November 13 in recognition of World Pancreatic Cancer Day. The schoolwide initiative was in support of kindergarten teacher Tara Hernandez whose mother passed away from the disease.
