Hockey nets hat trick and then some in 5-0 weekend sweep

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — It was a historic weekend for the hockey team as all three levels of the program recorded victories–two apiece for the junior varsity and varsity–in posting a perfect 5-0 record for the weekend. The junior varsity is currently in first place.

The modified team got things going with a 7-1 win over Scarsdale with Iona Prep President Brother Thomas Leto on hand. From there it was on to Coney Island where the Gaels went back-to-back against St. Joseph By-the-Sea, winning 4-0 and 5-3 for the varsity and junior varsity, respectively.

The following day, the junior varsity and varsity were back at it at the Ice Hutch, The varsity took care of business, 3-1, against Holy Cross in completing the season sweep, while the junior varsity iced St. Joe’s, 6-1, sweeping its series with the Vikings.

“It was a great weekend to be a Gael,” coach Marty Bauer said.
