NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New York State Department of Education has approved six new Iona College undergraduate and graduate programs slated to begin in the summer and fall of 2016. The School of Arts and Science will offer undergraduate BA and BS and graduate BA/MS, BS/MS, and MS programs in computer science with a concentration in game development. The School of Business will offer a master of science in project management.

The game development concentration at both the undergraduate and graduate levels will provide students with opportunities to acquire strong skills in general software development and also prepare them for careers in the game development industry.

“The Computer Science Department anticipates a high level of enthusiasm for its upcoming game development concentration,” said Frances Bailie, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the computer science department. “It is an interdisciplinary field that includes script writing, graphic design, music, psychology, artificial intelligence, and other related areas and should appeal to a wide variety of student interests.”

The Master of Science in project management will prepare professionals of any function or discipline with the skills to plan, execute and manage projects of any type or size in any industry.

“These concentrations are designed to appeal to students interested in the modern age of technology including mobile as well as console applications,” said Vincent J. Calluzzo, Ph.D., interim provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. “Courses provided will ensure Iona students are well prepared for this job market.”

The MS will also prepare students for the certification examination as a project management professional of the Project Management Institute (PMP Certificate). The MS in project management has been designed to provide today’s project managers with the tools to balance the complexities of modern project management which include identifying business value, risk, quality, safety, cost, finance  and technology.
