NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s basketball team lost its second-straight game on Monday as they fell to Frederick Community College, 73-70, in a game played in Frederick, Maryland.  The team is now 14-7 on the season.

It was a tale of two halves for the Mustangs, as they built a halftime lead, only to see it evaporate in the second 20 minutes.  Monroe jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the game on a pair of buckets from Shackquiel Scott and a dunk from Jarron Chapman.  A Ran Tut three-pointer at 14:04 made the lead eight points (16 to 8).  Four minutes later, off of a Felix Carlsson steal, Lawahn Lewis buried a three-pointer to make the score 28-14 for Monroe.  A minute after that, Taquan Givens got a steal and took it back for a layup to the Mustangs up by 16, 30-14.  They led at the half, 40-34.

Monroe held a short lead throughout the majority of the second half.  Frederick finally took the lead the 5:50 mark of the half.  A Tyler Ancrum free throw tied the score at 57-57.  Kemar Campbell made a free throw in the closing seconds to make the score 71-70, but Frederick went on to win 73-70.  Tut led the way for the Mustangs with 10 points.  Ancrum collected a game-high four steals.

The Monroe College men’s basketball returns to action on Thursday, January 21, at Harford.  The tipoff is slated for 7:00 PM.
