WHITE PLAINS, NY — U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara will be the keynote speaker and chief honoree on Friday, Feb. 5, at the Westchester County Crime Stoppers dinner at the VIP County Club in New Rochelle.

Bharara will be awarded the organization’s Crime Stopper of the Year award for his successful prosecutions of major cases involving political corruption, narcotics trafficking, terrorist plots, corporate and financial fraud and gang-related violent crime.

“Mr. Bharara’s accomplishments over the past six years have raised awareness of the challenges that confront our primary institutions in both the public and private sectors,” said Derickson K. Lawrence, chairperson of Westchester County Crime Stoppers. “If his past speeches are any guide, we can expect an instructive, engaging and sober assessment of the value of public trust in the leadership of those institutions.”

Added Lawrence: “We are also pleased to honor Westchester County Police Commissioner George N. Longworth and Reginald Ward, chair of the New York Law Enforcement Foundation, for their significant contributions to Westchester County and the law enforcement community.”

Proceeds from the event, which begins at 7 p.m., will go to support Westchester County Crime Stoppers, which offers cash rewards in hard-to-solve criminal investigations and cold cases in the county.

“Helping law enforcement mitigate and solve crimes is at the core of our mission as a 501 (c) 3  corporation,” Lawrence said. “All contributions go to sustaining that mission, and quite frankly represent an investment in the security of Westchester County.”
