New Rochelle Man Victim of Identity Theft: A New Rochelle man’s name and personal information were allegedly used to open a Barclay credit card Feb. 4, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The complainant told police he received a Barclay Card at his home. After contacting the issuer, he learned the account had been opened on Jan. 27 but had not been charged, the police report said. The complainant closed the account, the report said.
Car Hit While Parked at Shop Rite: A car parked in the parking lot at Shop Rite, 8 Joyce St., was allegedly damaged by a driver who hit the vehicle and fled the scene Feb. 4, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The complainant told police he parked his vehicle at the location about 6 p.m., and was told by a coworker about 7 p.m. that his car had been damaged, the report said. The dislodged front bumper was lying on the ground, according to the report. There were no witnesses and Shop Rite does not have surveillance cameras, the police report said.
Unknown Suspect Charges Man’s Credit Card: New Rochelle Police responded to a report of alleged identity theft Feb. 4 after the complainant told police his bank notified him of unauthorized charges to his account. The complainant told police that his credit card had been charged twice. There are no suspects, according to the police report.
Identity Theft Reported: New Rochelle Police responded to a third report of alleged identity theft Feb. 4 after a complainant told police she noticed unauthorized charges on her credit card statement Feb. 3. The victim contacted her bank and bank representatives told her to contact police, the police report said.
Alleged Suspect Located at Area Business: New Rochelle Police confronted a man who allegedly stole a laptop just before 11 a.m. Feb. 4, according to a police report. Police met the suspect at Buffalo Wild Wings after the victim learned the alleged suspect was eating at the restaurant. Officers identified themselves to the man who talked with officers outside the restaurant but denied stealing the laptop. Although the suspect agreed to go to with officers to police headquarters, he refused to make a written statement without his lawyer present, the police report said. Police spoke to the victim and learned there were no witnesses to the incident or video surveillance of the alleged theft, the police report said. The suspect was released due to insufficient evidence, according to the report.
Man Becomes Victim of Phone Scam: A New Rochelle man was allegedly scammed out of money Feb. 4 by a caller who claimed to be from an institution that provides scholarships to learn English, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The victim told police he received a call from an unknown male in November 2015 who asked him if he wanted to apply for a scholarship to learn English, the police report said. The victim agreed to apply for the scholarship and the caller contacted him again on Feb. 3, the police report said. The complainant told police that the same caller told him that since he failed to follow up with him about the scholarship offer, a warrant would be issued for his arrest. The complainant told police the caller told him he could stop the warrant process by paying him $1,000. After the complainant told the caller he couldn’t afford to pay $1,000, the caller agreed to accept $400, which the victim sent to an address in Lima, Peru, the police report said. Police tried to contact the caller but there was no answer, the police report said.
ATM Card Stolen from Arcade: A man’s credit card was allegedly used by an unknown person after he left it at New Roc City’s FunFuzion in New Roc City Jan. 31, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The complainant told police he used one of the ATM machines inside the establishment about 2 p.m. Jan. 31 and left his card inside an ATM machine at FunFuzion. He didn’t realize his card was missing until he returned home, the police report stated. The complainant told police he immediately contacted the bank and canceled the card but learned that an unknown person had used the card to purchase gift cards and pay a parking meter, the police report said. Staff from the Regal Cinema provided the police with a surveillance picture of the suspect. The suspect in the video is a medium build, light-skinned, white male, who was wearing a gray shirt, the police report said. The video shows the suspect standing in front of the window of the ticket booth at approximately 3 p.m. Jan. 31, the report said. Staff also told police that the video showed the man using a parking meter at 2:53 p.m. Jan. 31. Surveillance video was shown to New Roc City’s security, who were asked to contact the police if the suspect returns to the premises.
Man Arrested for DWI: Ernesto Ulloa-Martinez, 28, of Port Chester, N.Y., was arrested Feb. 4 and charged with first-offense DWI.
