NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce formally recognizes the impact seniors have on the economy. They are hosting a symbolic ribbon cutting at the New Rochelle Future offices for the newly launched not-for-profit New Rochelle Cares AIP, an organization dedicated to supporting New Rochelle residents who are 60+.

“A major component of independence is the ability to get out and go places” says Frankie Shahar, a founder of NRC. A full membership in New Rochelle Cares entitles members to no cost rides. Friends and relatives are freed up and seniors do not feel indebted. Membership  includes discounts provided by the Chamber’s members and significant other benefits.

WestFair Rides provides the drivers for medically related needs of New Rochelle Cares AIP members, in addition to serving seniors countywide. WestFair Rides thoroughly vets volunteer drivers to deliver their “no-cost rides. “Our volunteers develop warm relationships with the people they serve. They enjoy the special reward of knowing they are the lifeblood of independent living for many of Westchester seniors”, added Catherine Wynkoop, President of WestFair Rides.

As a gift introduction, New Rochelle Cares is awarding one free one-year full membership. A lucky winner will be randomly drawn at the March 16th ribbon cutting. The contest is called THE YEAR OF FREE RIDES. We wish to attract volunteers to the event that will become drivers. We also hope to identify New Rochelle residents in need of these services. We are soliciting entries on behalf of those who meet the eligibility criteria. (A 60+ New Rochelle resident without independent driving options who could benefit from no-cost transportation and other services). Entries may be phoned in to New Rochelle Cares at (914) 563-8368 in advance of the event.

The drawing will take place on Wednesday, March 16th, right after the symbolic ribbon cutting ceremony at New Rochelle Future, 247 North Avenue, in New Rochelle at 5:30 pm. (Parking in the adjacent Planned Parenthood parking lot or in the municipal parking lot)

The public is welcome and light refreshments will be served. A complete list of the discounts offered to New Rochelle seniors will be available, along with full information about New Rochelle Cares, Westfair Rides and the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce.

Ashley Aldrich, Community Liaison of NR Future, adds, “We are pleased to be a part of this monumental moment for New Rochelle Cares AIP and Westfair Rides. We recognize the senior population as a significant portion of the makeup of New Rochelle’s Community.  As we look towards redeveloping Downtown New Rochelle for the future, we welcome partnering with New Rochelle Cares AIP and Westfair Rides in order to bring additional support towards helping our elderly lead happy and healthy lives.”
