Monroe Baseball Falls to Dutchess County College 7-2 in Home Game

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College baseball team lost to Dutchess County College 7-2 in a game played at City Park in New Rochelle on Thursday. The team is now at 14-7 overall this year, and 3-2 in home games.

The Mustangs fell behind 1-0 in the second inning as Dutchess got an unearned run. Monroe responded in their half of the second with two runs to grab a 2-1 lead. Ronald Jackson laced a two-out single through the right side. Jose Pena was hit by a pitch. Alex De La Cruz struck out, but reached first when the ball got past the catcher. With the bases loaded, Isiah Torres singled, scoring Jackson and Pena. Torres collected his 19th and 20th RBI on the hit, and is second on the team in that category.

Dutchess tied the game in the third and went on to win 7-2, as Monroe managed just four hits in the game. Andres Fernandez took the loss, surrendering only a pair of earned runs over six innings. He struck out seven and did not walk anyone. 

The Monroe College baseball team faces Suffolk County College in Selden, New York on Friday, March 25, before returning home for a weekend doubleheader against UConn Avery Point on Saturday, March 26.
