NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle softball squad kicked off the 2016 campaign with two contests this week.  They opened the season on Monday with a double-header against University of Maine – Presquie Isle.  The Blue Angels suffered 18-1 and 23-1 five-inning, setbacks in the opener.  Later in the week on Thursday night, CNR hosted St Joseph’s College (BK) and fell by scores of 18-1 and 16-0, both in five innings.

Freshmen Nia Garcia (Brooklyn, NY) was responsible for both runs in the contests against UMPI.  She had the lone hit in game one and scored. In game two, she smacked a home run to cut a 2-0 lead to 2-1 in the 2nd inning.  She also added a double.

Against SJC (BK) Garcia clobbered a pitch to left field, to pick up her 2nd home run of the season.  But, that would be the lone run of the night for the Blue Angels. Sophomore Lyndsey Edwards (Baltimore, MD) picked up her first hit, a double in game one, and freshmen Victoria Rivera (Brooklyn, NY) earned her first collegiate hit, a single over first base. Edwards picked up her 2nd double of the night in game two… the lone hit for CNR.

St Josephs (BK) improved to 3-5 on the season, while CNR fell to 0-4.  CNR travels to York College (NY) on Saturday for a double-header starting at 11:00am.
