NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A pair of errors in the top of the seventh led to three Marist runs in a 7-6 defeat of the Iona College baseball team in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at City Park.

Freshman 2B Sean Breen and sophomore 3B/RF Seth Hoagland each had a pair of hits while breen and junior RF Kyle DiVico dove in two runs a piece. Hoagland and rookie CF/3B Fran Kinsey scored twice in the loss.

Hoagland’s lead off triple in the third sparked a four run rally for the Gaels with RBI’s coming from DiVico, Breen and junior DH Lou Matarazzo. Marist got a run back in the fourth on Frank Gregoire’s solo home run, just the fifth in the Maroon & Gold’s brief three-plus year history of playing at City Park.

Iona got the run back in the bottom of the fourth. Hoagland led off the inning with a base hit and advanced to third on an error and a wild pitch. He was driven in by DiVico’s sacrifice fly.

Marist scored three in the fifth and trailed 5-4. Joey Aiola’s two run double was the big blow for the visitors.

The Red Foxes three tallies in the seventh all came on the same play. Aoila’s second double of the game drove in two more runs. He would advance to third on the throw home and scored on a close play at the plate as the relay throw went to the backstop and gave Marist a 7-5 advantage.

Iona closed within one in the seventh, manufacturing a run without the benefit of a hit. After a one-out walk, Kinsey moved to third on a passed ball and a wild pitch. Junior 1B Matt Byrne picked up an RBI on a ground out to shortstop.

Sophomore RHP Patrick Ryan earned the start and allowed four runs on six hits in 4.2 innings. Sophomore RHP Kyle Ackley took the loss in relief. Both base runners he allowed scored in the seventh, though one came as a result of an error.
