WHITE PLAINS, NY — The City of New Rochelle has received a Westchester Municipal Planning Federation Planning Achievement Award for the Downtown Overlay Zone. A student from New Rochelle received a WMPF Scholarship Award.
The Downtown Overlay Zone is intended to create a downtown mixed-use environment as envisioned by the Recommended Action Plan for Downtown New Rochelle. By addressing the challenges of existing zoning and creating appropriate incentives for existing property owners to opt-in to the optional DOZ, New Rochelle hopes to create an economically vibrant and pedestrian-friendly destination for New Rochelle and the region.
Also receiving awards was the Town of Cortlandt for Envision Cortlandt 2016 Sustainable Comprehensive Plan, the Village of Ossining for the Sing Sing Kill Greenway, and the City of White Plains for The Preclude at Brookfield Commons.
Max Emanuel Schwartz of New Rochelle received a $2,000 Scholarship Award from the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation.
Schwartz received his Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Science from the University of Michigan in 2015. He is currently pursuing a Master of City and Regional Planning, specializing in Transportation Policy and Land Use, at Rutgers University.
The 43rd Annual Awards Program and Dinner of the Westchester Municipal Planning Federation, celebrating outstanding contributions to Planning in Westchester County, was held on June 2nd at the C.V. Rich Mansion, home of the Women’s Club of White Plains.
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino issued a Certificate of Merit to the City of New Rochelle on the occasion of their receiving the WMPF Award.
