NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College men’s outdoor track & field junior Brandon Allen completed his 2015-2016 season with a 20th place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the University of Oregon.
Allen placed 10th in his heat, clocking in at 8:52.51. He earned Honorable Mention All-American for his performance. Edwin Kibichiy of the University of Louisville led the competitive field with his first place time of 8:33.56.
Allen’s fantastic 2016 campaign featured a new personal-best and two first place finishes in the steeplechase. He set his personal-best in the event at the NCAA East Preliminaries two weeks ago with an impressive time of 8:42.83 to qualifiy for today’s semifinal. His first victory came early in the season at the Colonial Relays with a time of 8:58.38. The second victory was at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, taking the steeplechase title with his time of 8:56.61.
Tara Jameson represents the Maroon & Gold tomorrow in her first of two races of the weekend. Jameson competes in the 10,000 meter final at 10:08 pm. The race can be seen nationally on ESPN.
