Five Injured, 1 Critical, After Violent 2-Car Collision in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Five people were injured, one very seriously, in a violent collission between two cars in front of 281 Lincoln Avenue in New Rochelle earlier this evening. One person, described by paramedics on scene as “unresponsive”, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.

There were a total of five people involved, 3 in one car, 2 in the other.

Two other people were taken to Montfiore Hospital in New Rochelle and one was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY.

New Rochelle police closed off the Lincoln Avenue between Webster Avenue and Storer Avenue.

One witness said that a BMW drove on Lincoln Avenue and high speed, crashing into a Camry that was turning in the driveway at 281 Lincoln, another said turning onto Wood Place.

A debris field approximately 100 feet long and 40 feet wide was strewn with car parts, medical supplies and one high-top sneaker left just below the driver’s side door of a tan car which came to rest in the middle of Lincoln Avenue. The other vehicle, a black car, came to rest on the sidewalk.

New Rochelle Fire Department called for additional ambulances under mutual aid from Eastchestester, Larchmont and Mount Vernon.

UPDATED 1:30 AM: New Rochelle police expected to work through the night on the scene of the collision which is now being treated as a crime scene. The condition of the unresponsive person taken to Jacobi was unknown, according to police. NRPD expects to release a statement in the morning after work at the scene is complete.

UPDATE 6:49 AM: New Rochelle Police issued a statement this morning.

At approximately 9:38 pm Tuesday night there was a two-car motor vehicle collision on Lincoln Avenue near Wood Place.

One vehicle, a black BMW, had two occupants. The driver was uninjured, the passenger had injuries to his hands. The second vehicle, a tan Toyota Camry, had three occupants. The driver sustain a broken leg. One passenger sustained multiple injuries to his torso and extremities and was semi-conscious at the scene. A second passenger sustained injuries to his head and was unconscious at the scene. All involved were between the ages of 20 and 26 years old.

All injured parties were treated at the scene by Fire, Police and EMS personnel.  

Two injured parties were subsequently transferred to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, one in serious condition, the other in critical condition. Two other injured parties were transferred to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY, both in serious but stable condition. One injured party was transferred to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital.

Both drivers are cooperating with police investigation. Several witnesses have come forward to help in the investigation.

The investigation is continuing.

“I’ve seen less damage to vehicles where we had a fatality,” said Joseph, at the scene early Wednesday morning. “This is one of the worst I’ve seen.”
