NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Board of Education is expected to announce they have hired Dr. Magda Parvey to the newly-created position of Chief Academic Officer. She was the runner-up for the position of Superintendent during the 2014 search that led to the hiring of Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne.

Parvey is currently the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro (North Carolina) Public Schools.

The initial interviews with the screening committee were held in great secrecy, at an off-site location (The College of New Rochelle). Committee members were required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement to prevent leaks.

Dr. Magda Parvey joined Chapel Hill-Carrboro in January of 2012. She previously served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction with the West Islip School District in West Islip, NY. She also served as the Principal of North Coleman Road Elementary in Centereach, NY, and as the Assistant Principal of Coman Hill Elementary in Armonk, NY. She was the Executive Director of The Children’s Center at SUNY Brooklyn and a Lead Teacher at P.S. 189K in New York City.

Parvey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and French from Canisius College; a Master of Science degree in elementary education and a Master of Arts in educational leadership and technology, both from Adelphi University; and a Doctor of Education in administration and supervision from Fordham University.
