Thieves steal items from vehicle: An unknown suspect or suspects allegedly stole a coin purse and a pair of sunglasses April 15 from a Nissan Suburban parked on Storer Avenue, according to a New Rochelle Police report. When police arrived, a man told them that that his wife had already left the scene with the vehicle. The man also told police his wife called them while on her way to work. The man said his wife parked the car at 8 p.m. April 14. When she returned at 6:30 a.m. the next day, she noticed that her coin purse and a pair of sunglasses were missing, the report said. The man told police the coin purse was worth about $10 and it contained $5 in change. He estimated the value of the sunglasses to be about $150.

Juveniles steal merchandise from Modell’s: Juveniles allegedly stole merchandise April 14 from Modell’s on Lecount Place, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The manager told police two juveniles entered his store and stole items totaling $14. He also told police he had detained the youths with help from New Roc City security. He told police that he did not want to press charges against the juveniles but wanted someone to talk with them about the negative effects of stealing, the police report said. Police took the juveniles to the New Roc Police substation and contacted their guardians. Both parties were banned from the New Roc City property until further notice, the report said.

Scammers stage kidnap drama and collect money from woman: A New Rochelle woman lost $1,560 April to unknown persons who threatened to kill her husband if she didn’t give them the money, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The complainant told police that an unknown person had called her and claimed that her husband had run over his nephew in a car accident. The caller told the woman that he didn’t want to deal with the police and advised her to send them $1,560 through MoneyGram. The caller also threatened to kill her husband if she tried to call the police, according the police report. The victim told police that the other party knew everything about her husband and the call he made was from her husband’s cell phone. After she sent the money, the caller told her to go to a local restaurant and sit at one of the front tables. He told her that a blue van would arrive shortly, the police report said. While at the restaurant, a different person called the woman, yelled and cursed at her and told her to retrieve additional money, the report said. The woman withdrew more money from her account and returned to MoneyGram to send it, she told police. However, she told police that while she was waiting in line, she received a call from her husband on another phone that he uses. When she spoke to him, she realized that she had been scammed, the report said. When she arrived home, she found her husband there with his cell phone and he was doing fine, the report said.

Neighbor steals woman’s garden light: A New Rochelle woman alleges that her neighbor stole a garden light April 13, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The complainant told police she saw the man walking down the street with one of her garden lights. She also told police that she knows the man and visited his house, where she told the man’s mother about the incident, the report said. The complainant did not want to pursue charges but asked the officer to tell the man not to come to her house again. When the officer confronted the man, he said that he did take the garden light from the complainant’s home, but that he threw it away, the report said.

Man assaults man for allegedly stealing change: A New Rochelle man was severely beaten by a man who accused him of stealing money April 13, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The complainant told police that he met the man who was waiting to pick up food from him. After receiving money from the man to pay for the food, he gave the man his change, the report said. However, the man became furious and accused him of stealing some of the change, the report said. The complainant told police that when he exited his vehicle, the man also exited his vehicle, walked around the car and began punching and kicking him. The attacker then got in his car and took off in an unknown direction, the complainant told police. The complainant said mouth was bleeding and he had abrasions to the left side of his head, left elbow and right hand as a result of the beating. He also told police that he had pain by his nose and head. The complainant refused medical treatment, the report said. The police officer took pictures of the victim’s injuries. Officers canvassed the area but could not locate the perpetrator.

Unknown person steals bumper guard from parked vehicle: A New Rochelle woman alleges that someone stole the rear bumper guard from her vehicle April 13 while it was parked at a parking lot, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The complainant told police she parked her car at the parking space at around 1:35 p.m. on April 12. When she returned to her car the same day around 8:25 p.m., she didn’t notice whether the bumper guard was missing or not. She noticed the bumper guard missing around 8:30 a.m. on April 13, she told police. She also noticed slight damage to the rear bumper caused by the person that removed the bumper guard, which has a lock, she told police. She told police she believes the WeatherTech bumper guard, which is valued at $250, was stolen when she was parked in the lot. She told police that when she is at home, she parks her car in a garage with the bumper guard against a wall. She said there are surveillance cameras in the area where the theft took place, but she is not sure if they are still functional since the former business no longer owns the building, the police report states.

Unknown person attempts to file false tax return in woman’s name: A New Rochelle woman told police she was notified by the IRS that an unknown individual tried to file a false tax return in her name April 13. The IRS detected the fraud and denied the claim, the report said. She also told police that the IRS suggested she file a police report to document the incident.

Unknown person assaults man at Get Soul Lounge: A man was reportedly severely beaten April 17 at the Get Soul Restaurant and Lounge on Cedar Street, according to a New Rochelle Police report. Responding officers met the complainant at the Montefiore Hospital emergency room. The man had a severe laceration on the right side of his face, from his temple to his neck, the report states. Officers tried to interview the man, however, he would not provide details of the incident nor would his friend who rode with him to the hospital. The manager at Get Soul told police that he did not witness the incident and did not know the victim, the report said. The injured man was treated and released, the report said.

Arrest reports

William A. Kemp, 58, of New Rochelle, was arrested April 14 and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Isidro Isaias, 34, of New Rochelle, was arrested April 12 and charged with one count of petit larceny and one count of trespassing.

Matthew S Maiorano, 24, of Scarsdale, was arrested April 17 and charged with one count of first-offense DWI.

Gregory J Carter, 57, of New Rochelle, was arrested April 16 and charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of resisting arrest.
