NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s soccer team has earned a perfect 2-0 start to the season after a 1-0 victory over CCBC Essex in Baltimore on Sunday. This matchup featured a pair of top-20 ranked teams, with Monroe College and CCBC Essex ranked at 15 and 19, respectively.
The lone goal of the contest came in the 78th minute, when Gabriel Machado blasted a shot into the upper left corner of the net off a feed from Lucas Vaz. It was Machado’s first goal of the season, while Vaz has two assists in as many games.
Defense was key for this second-straight win, as the Mustangs held the Knights without a shot on goal for the entire contest. The team has now outscored its opponents 4-1 in the two games this season. Goalie Daniel Henderson picked up his first clean sheet of the season.
The Monroe College men’s soccer team will return to action on Saturday, September 3rd, in a match against Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
