NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College volleyball program fell in straight sets to Navy in the opening match of the Red Flash Classic late Friday afternoon.
The Mids used a 12-3 run to capture the first set, 25-10. Iona as a team had a match-low -0.120 attack percentage in the opening set. The Maroon & Gold bounced back and lost competitively lost sets two and three, both by a score of 25-20. Iona had team-high 17 kills as a team in the second set, finishing attacks at a .351 percentage.
Freshman Tess Connolly recorded a season-high 12 kills. She also had seven digs, one service ace, and one block. It was her second double-digit kill effort of the season. Sophomore Emma Rose accounted for all but six of the Gaels assists with a team-high total of 23.
Sophomore Jessica Paolucci finished with a match-high 15 digs. Senior Karly White tied a season-high with four kills to go with a match-high four block assists. It’s her sixth straight game with multiple block assists.
The Gaels had a season-low two service aces and they totaled 11 service errors, their third straight double-digit sum.
Iona continues the Red Flash Classic tomorrow when they serve up against Eastern Kentucky and Saint Francis (PA) at 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM respectively.
